A Michigan Family with Over a Century of Trust.

Alex Joseph Danboise opened a plumbing and hardware shop at Grand River and Spokane in Detroit in 1925. He wasn’t thinking about a hundred-year legacy — he was thinking about showing up and doing the job right. That part hasn’t changed.

His son Hall took over in 1966. Hall’s daughter Carol came to work alongside her father after college, and eventually brought in a young plumber named Jack Gatewood — who she later married. When Hall passed away in 1978, Carol and Jack stepped in and kept going. Jack earned his Master Plumber’s license and Mechanical Contractor’s license. Together they grew the business and moved it from Detroit to Redford to Farmington Hills, turning a neighborhood shop into the full-service company it is today.

In 2017, Carol’s daughter Amy became the fourth-generation owner. The fourth generation of the family is already learning the trades. A hundred years in, and it’s still the same family — still showing up for Metro Detroit homeowners one job at a time.

Had our fall HVAC system checkup and prep for the upcoming heating season by Brandon and found him to be thorough, efficient, friendly and helpful with information about how our furnace was aging. Would be delighted to have him again.  My one suggestion for improvement is with the procedure for confirming appointments. Because of our very limited time slots for doing this, I made an appointment for the first visit of the day.  I confirmed it the afternoon prior.  On the morning of the visit I got another call and text to again confirm I was ready.  I missed those by a 5-10 minutes while being in the shower. When I responded that I was indeed still ready,  I was informed they moved on and would let me know when someone was available.  Fortunately a call to Becki led to getting us next on the list and enabled us keeping our day’s schedule of doctor and other appointments intact and getting the HVAC service done. I’m happy they could respond quickly.

When one circuit breaker suddenly kept tripping in August 2025 and we couldn’t get any electrical current through it to use any outlets connected to it, we called AJ Danboise to schedule an electrician to troubleshoot the problem. Maher.K came as scheduled and found the whole house surge protector and an integrated circuit breaker were damaged by a power surge. Maher showed us the heat damage on the parts caused by that surge. We were happy that we installed the whole house protector two years ago at the recommendation of Danboise, as it did its job and prevented damage to our appliances. Maher did a terrific job at explaining the problem and the best, most cost effective fix. And he had the parts on the truck to do the job.  Everything is fixed and working now. We were delighted with Maher’s troubleshooting expertise, technical and analytical skills, ability to think of the most cost effective solution, and great interpersonal and communication abilities.

Another good experience in May 2025 with AJ Danboise, this time with HVAC technician Martin P. He checked out our system and alerted us to an emerging issue that we could get ahead of and avoid an unexpected future crisis.  He was friendly, easy to understand and able to explain things clearly.  Really appreciated that he had photos of our system and measurements from his devices to help illustrate and explain things.

Another good experience in April 2023 with AJ Danboise as they performed seasonal HVAC checkup and maintenance.

We have a service contract with AJ Danboise, and one of the routine checkups led us to schedule a followup visit to get estimates on heating, hot water, and cooling equipment that was well past its design life and service life.  Andrew came out, was punctual and very personable, and took photos and reviewed them with us.  And he also prepared 3 estimates to match the 3 options of what we might decide to do.  He provided great written and verbal technical information and rationale about each item (furnace, hot water heater, and A/C unit) and the related work he was proposing.  There was no pressure to decide anything, and he provided clear information on pricing and payment options.   We also talked about how the AJ Danboise proposal compares with competitors to understand differences in price and quality.  This was an excellent proposal.  Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I am happy to share our extreme pleasure with the outcome of our electrical project and the AJ Danboise contractor, MAHER KASSHAMOON, who got us there.

We had a multitude of electrical upgrades and repairs done to our home: electrical wiring added to ceilings that had none; electrical outlets, switches and dimmers added; recessed lighting installed throughout the home; new light fixtures and ceiling fans installed in most rooms, and repair of our outdoor electrical outlets.

This project affected the majority of the rooms in our home. Yet, despite its size, it was flawlessly executed by Maher. From the beginning (quoting process) to the end (project execution and completion), he was simply amazing!  He was professional, kind, customer-focused, knowledgeable and a problem-solver.  He helped us tremendously and has unquestionably earned our five star rating.  Thanks to him, the vision for our home has been brought to life.
